Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society

The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (CWRS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife in Calgary and area. CWRS provides valuable outreach and education programs to the community. Dependant upon volunteers, they help teach new skills to people. 

Alberta Sustainable Resource Development (Fish & Wildlife)
Alberta Sustainable Resource Development is committed to the wise use and conservation of fish and wildlife resources to preserve the intrinsic value they add to the environment. This website contains on-line versions of the popular brochures "The Bear Facts" and "Living with Cougars".

Eastern Slopes Grizzly Bear Project (ESGBP)
This website contains a great deal of important information about grizzlies in the Central Rockies Ecosystem. From fundamental data about grizzlies for grade school projects to the latest research papers this site is a wealth of information.

Parks Canada

COSEWICCOSEWIC (Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada) is a committee of experts that assesses and designates which wild species are in some danger of disappearing from Canada.

Wildlife Habitat Canada (WHC)WHC works through partnerships with communities, landowners, governments, non-government organizations and industry to find effective solutions to complex environmental problems facing wildlife habitat.

Canadian Wildlife Federation
The Canadian Wildlife Federation hosts an informative website that provides updates on what's happening with wildlife and wildlife habitat in Canada.

Defenders of Wildlife
Defenders of Wildlife is a U.S.-based organization dedicated to the protection of all native wild animals and plants in their natural communities. They focus their programs on the accelerated rate of extinction and associated loss of biodiversity, and habitat alteration and destruction.

Predator Conservation Alliance (PCA)
PCA is a U.S.-based organization that works to conserve and restore ecosystem integrity by protecting predators and their habitats.

Alberta Birds of Prey CentreThe Alberta Birds of Prey Centre
A hands-on organization that: rehabilitates and releases injured birds of prey back to the wild; breeds in captivity and releases endangered species; studies and monitors wild birds of prey populations; and, encourages increased public awareness.

Inglewood Bird Sanctuary
Located along the Bow River in Calgary, AB the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary is a 32-hectare wildlife reserve with more than two kilometres of level walking trails throughout the riverine forest, and along the river and a peaceful lagoon. There are many opportunities for viewing a wide variety of bird and plant species as well as several kinds of mammals. They also offer a variety of educational programs.

The Important Bird Areas of Canada program identifies "important bird areas" and initiates programs to protect them.

Ring-Necked Pheasant
Phasianus colchicus
Males have a distinguished body compared to the females. They have a black head and white stripe around the collar and short black tuffs around the ears. Males have a long tail, red face, and a bronze body with several patterns of colour ranging from green, and maroon to cream. Females have a shorter tail and varied light and dark brown markings.
