VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION

"Volunteering at the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area is an incredible opportunity to be a part of the vision of ASCCA and the chance of a lifetime to contribute while learning so much."

Donna Fleury

On Saturday, December 4th, 2004 we celebrated our 12th annual Volunteer Party. It was a fantastic day of celebration and entertainment with 50 volunteers and guests in attendance.

Our "Volunteer of the Year 2004" was Julia Marmont. Julia is an Education Volunteer, has gone above and beyond her duties and filled many other tasks as needed. She puts a lot of enthusiasm in all the programs that she leads and the children are all very enlightened about nature and conservation after spending a day with Julia. She has attended several training sessions and is always a joy to see at Belvedere House.

We also recognized three wonderful "Volunteers of Distinction": Olga Droppo, Dick Choy and Gordon Hunter. We cannot say enough about these people. They are the reason that the Cross Conservation Area continues to operate at a level of excellence.

We were happy to provide an amazing presentation by a local theatre group - Green Fools Theatre Society. Their Whooping Crane show was entertaining and educational. We also had a Robin video (about a robin hatching and its progression to first flight) produced by Anders Renborg. This video was excellent, provided a great insight into the start of a Robin’s life and was very entertaining. As an added feature, Art Patterson played two songs on his accordion.

This was a very fun way to end another excellent year at the Cross Conservation Area. Thank you to all of our volunteers for their contributions this year!
